Fundamentalist religion is idolatry. Mystical, multi-faith, skeptical meta-religion like what I advocate is a method for overcoming idolatry.

There is no reason to believe that an invisible sky daddy is watching over us, and will punish us with eternal damnation if we don't follow a specific set of arbitrary rules written by some dude 6,000 years ago who hallucinated on a mountain.

Religion has been responsible for more death and destruction than anything else in human history.

I grappled with that for a long time - thinking that it might be some kind of indictment on Christianity itself that most of the people who identify with it don't follow its precepts. But it's really more an indictment on human nature. The teachings of Jesus still have value even if most of the people who claim to identify with him don't understand them.

The teachings of Jesus are nothing more than humans trying to create morality for the sole purpose of control. Same with the teachings of Moses.

We are an infinitesible speck in an infinite universe.
