The 'Eternal Sunshine' Director Made 7 of the Most Creative Music Videos You'll Ever See

Michel Gondry had one hell of a run 20-25 years ago.

So when I was at the height of my film fanaticism and DVD collecting habit, one of my favorite series of DVDs was “The Director’s Series.” These collected some of the most notable music videos from several of the medium’s most creative talents:

All 7 sets offered memorable works but the two clear stand-outs were Mark Romanek - who I think I’ve already written about… - and French director Michel Gondry, who I’m writing on today. The DVD offered 27 music videos and out of these I now offer you my 7 favorites, thanks to the magic of YouTube. (Kids today are so spoiled with YouTube and their precious TikTok! Why, in my day we had to make due with DVDs! Get off my lawn!)

First, let’s start with two of his videos for one of my favorite bands, the White Stripes, the latter of which was parodied well on “The Simpsons”:

A great music video will introduce you to a song and an artist which you might otherwise have never considered. Such is the case with this amazing Kylie Minogue video:

Another band for which Gondry created memorable, unique music videos, is the Chemical Brothers. These two, especially the second, are something else:

As with so many of Gondry’s creations, this video by Daft Punk is endlessly catchy and perpetually rewatchable:

Finally, let’s do one of Bjork’s best:
