My 20 Favorite Substacks So Far This Year
These are the ones that have most impressed me with their output the last 3 months.
Of the 474 substacks which I subscribe to, these are the ones that I have read the most over the last 3 months.
My favorite Substack during this first quarter of the year:
consistently has compelling takes on culture, politics, and technology. He’s a bit to my left politically but that’s alright. On the bigger themes that he writes about he generally seems more on point than not. He’s also a skillful writer and has a witty sense of humor. Some of his recent articles to consider:OK, now for the other 19, in no particularly order.
I think what has always remained so compelling about
is that while on one subject you may agree with him strongly, on others you might object with similar enthusiasm. There are very few writers around like that these days - when they’ll regularly surprise you with positions and then challenge you on the ones where you may disagree.Like Davis,
is another writer a bit too my left but not unreasonably so. He regularly has thoughtful analysis and likes to tweak his own side. is a unique, valuable Zionist voice and an endless inspiration to me. is the quirkiest and weirdest one on the list. Give him a try. I don’t always know what to make of him but often find some skill in his prose and thus try to encourage him.’s writings on books and book culture are consistently compelling and thoughtful.Subscribe to
’s Patreon here. One of the few podcasts in the world worth paying for.I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:
is the best person writing about immigration today. His very libertarian approach is the best and has influenced me the most. He also does a great job beating down nationalists, such as here:As I’ve noted some of the writers here are to my left but still thoughtful to read,
is much more to my right, one of the lead writers at FrontPageMag where I worked as an editor 2009-2011. He’s joined Substack recently and his output has been in some ways more engaging than what I’ve read from him over the years as he’s written in the style of my old bosses.I encourage him to continue experimenting more on this platform. It’s a wonderful site for exploring a variety of different subjects, styles, and mediums.
Perhaps it may seem contradictory that an atheist substack would appear on here juxtaposed with two Jewish ones. I mostly find
of interest because it does a good job finding and dissecting the sorts of Christian fundamentalists who I’ve long railed against with much anger and will continue to do so, likely indefinitely.I’m glad that
has a dedicated substack to the important subject of narcissism and hope she continues to just drill down deeper into it.And how about two Substacks for keeping an eye on the genocidal imperial war of choice waged by the evil mass murderer Vladimir Putin:
We’ll have some wonderful news to announce soon about
’s first book…So who should I check out next? Who do you find yourself reading the most consistently?
Thank you for the recommendation! You have given me new accounts to check out as well which I am excited to read : )
Thank you David for including my Substack! I will continue to drill down into the source of narcissism - radical left is giving much inspiration for that.
I’ll be looking into the excellent writers in your list who I don’t yet follow.
