“Politics is downstream from culture,” the late Andrew Breitbart popularized among conservative bloggers while he was alive. I’d go a step further: Everything is downstream from culture. The cultures you embrace determine who you are and who you become. You become what you worship.
So it’s been a full three weeks since my last installment in this series and my excuse is pretty straightforward: now most of my time writing about antisemitism has focused on my freelance contributions to Jewish News Syndicate. While I’ve still managed to keep up the mysticism podcasts and sub-in for
sometimes when he needs a break from his daily music series, by and large I just haven’t had the energy and focus to continue churning out this series’s longer essays on the wars against Israel and the Jewish people like I did in December, January, and February when my JNS workload was not as substantive as it is now.But I’ve now figured out a solution! I’m going to get back to my blogging roots and start churning out shorter, quicker installments that are more akin to blog posts than longer essays. When a particular story strikes me I’ll link to it, excerpt it, and then provide a couple paragraphs of commentary explaining why it hit me as important.
So please consider this brief at JNS which jumped out at me today as it relates to a point I made on yesterday’s Muslim mysticism podcast: “Israel to hit back harder against terrorist aggression.”
Israel will respond with greater force to Palestinian terrorism emanating from Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told members of the Security Cabinet recently.
…
The premier told officials not to comment on the prospective counterterrorism measures, which are intended to send a clear message to Hamas, Hezbollah and their patron Iran that Jerusalem will not stand idly by when it is attacked, and to restore deterrence against the country’s enemies.
…
Early this month, terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired 44 projectiles at Israel, prompting the IDF to strike more than 10 Hamas targets in the Palestinian enclave, including weapons manufacturing sites and attack tunnels.

I’ve hit on this point in my last two Muslim mysticism podcasts this month inspired by the biography I’m reading of Hasan-i-Sabah:
This is a simple principle which goes much further than just foreign policy. Deterrence applies too in our own personal lives.
Bullies are the same whether they strike with rockets like terrorists, armies like tyrannical states, or just with insults and intimidation like that asshole giving you a hard time at the office. They’re all fucking cowards, and the only way to deal with them is through fear and intimidation.
Make them know with perfect clarity that if they are going to try and attack you in any way, then you are going to hit back THREE times as hard. The common refrain of “punch back twice as hard” isn’t enough. Kick back three times as hard until their head right off their body.
I also apply this principle in my writings, which is why some people occasionally get the mistaken impression that I’m more extreme or unreasonable or radical than I really am. I don’t think authoritarian and destructive ideologies should be merely explained and offered polite disagreements. I believe we need to cut them to the core, exposing them as the horrific evils they actually are, all embraced by weak, pathetic human beings.
Have I made this clear enough yet?

One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite shows:
"If you keep running from the school yard bully, he keeps on chasing you but the moment you turn around and stop you punch him really hard in a sensitive spot. He'll think twice about coming back."
