5 Tips So Your Puppy Can Have an Awesome Dog Beach Adventure
Your canine correspondent reports following her first visit to the Pacific ocean.
My apologies for the delay on our dog Jasmine’s report about our vacation last week to Ocean Beach in San Diego where she got three consecutive days of dog beach visits.
But we really cannot delay it any further - who knows how strong dog’s memories really are? - so here we go. As per our previous translations, Jasmine speaks to Sally telepathically, who will then speak aloud to me what she’s saying, which I then transcribe for your entertainment and enlightenment. You’re welcome.
But first, Jasmine is demanding that I take her out before we begin. Very well. Just a moment.
OK, we’re back now and ready to go.
Sally: “Alright, Jasmine. What is your first advice for a puppy visiting the dog beach?”
Do not be scared when you go to the beach. Maybe you have never been around so many other puppies and maybe you have not visited the ocean.
It’s a lot. But it’s OK.
The other puppies are your friends. And the ocean can only get you if you go out really far in that part. Maybe the water will lift you up off your feet and you might be scared for a minute but you are still OK and it is fun.
Sally: “Is that it for that one?”
Yes.
Sally: “OK, what’s next, Jazz?”
Do not run away too far. You are supposed to go play and not stay with your parents but you have to stay in the beach area. If you go in the parking lot some guy on a weird bike can hit you or maybe even a car could hit you and if your parents try to follow you they cannot go as fast as you because they have only two legs.
So even if you want to explore, only explore the beach part.
Sally: “Very good advice, Jasmine. Come here, honey. [She gets up on couch.] What’s next?”
If you have a hoodie or a t-shirt you should bring it, that way other dogs will know that you are cool. If you don’t like wearing it when you run around you should still bring one because if you go in the water you might get cold later.
And one time I saw a dog in a fish costume and that was cool too. This is an easy way to make friends if you are sometimes shy because all the other puppies will ask you about your hoodie or your fish costume.
Sally: “That’s good. What’s next, monkey? Oh, ok, yes.”
You should have your mom and dad bring water for you and snacks. You are going to play really, really hard and you will be thirsty and maybe even hungry. Sometimes there is a guy who sells snacks and drinks but my mommy did not want to pay for those. And if you have your own water everybody else will come up to you and say ‘can I have some of your water’ because their parents forgot to bring it. If there really is enough water, this is a good way to make friends.
Sally laughs.
And you should explain to your puppy they are not supposed to drink the ocean. It has salt in it.
Sally says “OK.”
Also there are no chicken nuggets available at the beach. You would have to bring your own.
Sally says, “OK, last one kiddo, what do we have? What’s our last pieces of advice?”
If you really, really, really like the dog beach you might decide you have to go there every day. You can ask your parents to move to San Diego so that you can go to the dog beach every day. I guess they might say “no” but they might say “maybe.” And if you say “please, please, please I really want to” then they might take you there lots of times for vacation even if you don’t actually move there.
And that would be good.
Sally then says, “OK, now it’s time for a conclusion paragraph.”
The dog beach is a really special vacation for a dog because a lot of times vacations are mostly for people. If you take your puppy to the dog beach they will never forget it and they will have so much fun that they will fall asleep for the whole night without even having dinner.
I hope your puppy has a fun time at dog beach. Maybe I will see them there.
Sally: “That’s really good. You did such a good job. Yeah, you did a good job, honey. I know you’re a blogger. You are just like daddy, aren’t you? You know Mommy’s not such a bad writer herself. You’re like both of us. Boop!”
Awww! The puppy has his own rash guard. Heart melted!
P.S. I'm pretty sure they instinctively know not to drink the ocean. But the critters sometimes drink in our saline pool water even though I always have plenty of fresh water for them. It's kind of like a salt lick.
Thanks for sharing this David- Jasmine seems to have a knack for great sweaters and great waters. Hope you're having a great week with her. :)
