Thanks for this compelling essay. If you haven’t done so, listen to “The High Cost of Loving” by Country singer Jamey Johnson. The refrain is
“The high cost of living
Ain’t nothing like the cost of living high”
Congratulations on your years of sobriety. I gave up alcohol two years ago but that was because of a medical condition. Fortunately I was not an alcoholic so it was easy. My wife, also not an alcoholic, had to give it up due to a serious medical condition. Our wine cellar is gathering cobwebs!
There's a loud party echoing in the courtyard 30 feet below my balcony, a great reminder that 13 years ago tonight is the last time i drank alcohol. I'm grateful af and proud of us for realizing and admitting the fact that we will never regain the ability to have 2 social drinks, then stop. Every day is a new reward! Congratulations!
Brave, honest, compelling, inspiring. Thank you!
Thank you so much. 💜
Damn. Congratulations.
Thank you very much!
A typo. I meant the “High Cost of Living” not “loving” though the latter may have a high cost associated with it

I bet it is! And I do know that song - it's quite something.
Glad you enjoyed!
